And On A Sad, Sad Note...

So some of you may already know that we are to move to Brighton, UK, in early September. And that I wanted to take my little companion with me.

But then the harsh numbers of it all started rolling in. So firstly, we had to add £300 to the deposit for the house. The airline will charge us 140 euros to transfer it on board our flight (apparently you can only travel to the UK with a pet listed as cargo, and the pet checks in THREE hours before you do...) and then we would pay £ 150-ish as soon as we got there as a fee to an increase to their pet population...(?)Then it would take £ 140 to take a cab from London Heathrow to Brighton, as coaches over there DO NOT accept pets, even if they are guide dogs...Now...I love my cat. I suppose I can sit through a 3-and-a-half-hour-flight and try to keep cool and calm while picturing him in some strange compartment, non-sedated (you are not allowed to do that, as it is apparently so much better for a Siamese never-been-out-of-home-cat to experience take-off, landing, and turbulence while being fully alert and wide awake in such a long flight), but I simply cannot, and believe me, there is noone who feels worse about this, gather that money to take him with us at this point, especially as the flat which we have rented is unfurnished, and those UK pounds are much needed for beds, closets, washing machines etc.....I feel terrible.Just terrible. And I want to cry. Simba is the kind of cat that when you are sad, stands by the bed and stares at you lovingly and won't go to sleep until you are feeling better..he is the kind of cat that when I was feeling down for a long time, some years ago, he lost weight and started sleeping outside my bedroom door...The kind of cat that when I leave home, waits behind the front door for me to come back, and just knows when I have returned...I am sorry for the rambling... But I know you will understand, and some even might feel/have felt the same way....

  1. Sorry to hear about your cat. It's not easy having to leave a pet behind!! Have you decided what to do with her? Do you have friends or family that will give her a good home?
Cheer up though, it all happens for a reason!

  2. That´s just heart-breaking, but since Simba is lucky enough to be a much loved cat, you will find him a beautiful home. Cats HATE moving and travelling anyway - it would not be fair to him and all those reasons you numbered show it is not a decision you took light heartedly. My siamese cat Lily has been my companion for 15 years now, she is the one who has breakfast with me and stayed awake with us when revising for exams back in college. I know how you must feel.

  3. I am so sorry you have to leave your kitty behind. That is a very tough decision. One of my cat's is the same way...a very loving tender hearted kitty.

  5. This must be very difficult... Cats do not like to be moved but I think worst, they don't want to be without their owners. If at all possible, I hope you can find a way to bring him with you. I know 750 pounds is a lot of money but it is very little compared to the love and joy you get in return from your pet. I know Greece has a very large stray population. They are hungry and uncared for... So unless you can find a very trust worthy home, I hope you can figure something out.
