I have been busy as a bee these days, working on a handful of new paintings to be released around mid to late September, and it seemed about time I start sharing them with you :)

However Little Red Riding Hood had long outgrown her fear of a particularly cunning creature that roamed the woods, she was much surprised to find that one peculiar wolf of gentle manners - and no interest whatsoever in her grandmother's wardrobe - would chaperone her to her weekly visits to her cottage.

I have been looking at these little feathery creatures more often than usual lately ~ as I am currently working on a little portrait painting co-starring an owl~ and thought I would share some of the gorgeous images I have found around the net:

I fell in love with this beautiful wallpaper from Abigail Edwards. My, If green-blues accented with gold could be indexed as one color, it would be my absolute favorite :) And now I really really wish we could have some wallpaper...sigh. We are currently renting, so I can't possibly bear the thought of having to go through wallpaper-ing the house if I am going to have to say goodbye in a few months' time.... oh well.

Amelia and this rather lonesome little raccoon met in the forest on a warm spring afternoon, and after having spent such a lovely time in the girl's company (during which she told him stories of garden parties filled with cupcakes, tea and meringues), the little creature insisted that she took him with her so that he could live in that same, sweet-filled world as her.

Oscar And The Otter

After being in the Otter's presence for a while, Oscar soon realized that they were even more alike that he would have thought.

They were both inquisitive, playful and intelligent little things, although Oscar couldn't say he shared in the Otter's enjoyment in sliding around on the muddy bank!

As you can see, I have finally found what seems to me to be the perfect kind of frame to host my painted editorial. I just love its intricate details and I can't believe how warm and rich its golden tones are. I have been searching for the perfect golden colour for my frames for quite some time now, and I think I have finally found it :)

A Painted Editorial

After having ooh-ed and aah-ed for quite some time over La Petite magazine, I was thrilled to be approached by them a while ago for a collaboration to be featured in their latest issue.

I have been working on this project behind-the-scenes, and now that the magazine's current issue is released, I am so excited to be able to share this painted-editorial-of-sorts with you!

I did one of their fashion spreads, which I imagined as diorama scenes from a rather whimsical natural history museum, and I must admit I had the loveliest of times working on this feature, especially since I got to style what each little cutie wears myself!

The original paintings in this series will be available soon, as I am still looking for the perfect frames for them to live in...

The Runaways

A little while ago, I watched Charlie Chaplin's The Circus, and minutes before drifting off to Dreamland that same night, my mind was filled with imaginary stories of the inhabitants of such a place.

I dreamt of the friendship between a balloon girl and a dancing bear, both of whom, while being very much cherished and loved indeed by their fellow companions, always felt like they didn't belong. Ever since she was little, the girl would sneak to the bear's cage every night after the show was over, curl up next to him, and tell him stories of faraway places, filled with forests stretching as far as the eye could see.
They ran away from the circus on a particularly starry night, minutes after the bear's number had finished, and in such a hurry that they didn't even have time to part from their work attire.
I woke up the next morning eager to capture them at the beginning of their new adventures, and they obliged me by pausing/posing for a moment or two at the side of the road they were both about to take for the very first time.

Nature's Architects

I got this book as a Christmas present for my special fella, and he loved it.

{I am still not quite sure if it appealed more to his being an architect or to his hedgehog-y nature}

This little book is quite lovely, filled (as one might expect from books of this kind) with intriguing trivia about the dwelling-making of all sorts of little creatures, and it smells like an attic in early Autumn.

(Yes, I am one of those gals that just has to smell her books)

Unfortunately, most of the plates have long ago parted ways with the little book, however there are some that have stuck ~pardon the pun~around, and most pages are adorned with beautiful black and white photographs and illustrations.

It's paint, paint, paint around here these days...and I couldn't wish for a better company than my deer {dear} planter that holds some of my brushes...I just love it when things combine practicality and whimsy, and it helps with the fact that I collect such things in heaps, and if they didn't have any use (apart from the obvious decorative one), I would simply tumble under their weight...~or would be in need of an ever-expanding home to accommodate them all :)

The Illusionist

I have always had a soft spot for animated films, and was so sad to see them gradually fade away, especially with the introduction of computer generated graphics.
There is something magical about moving pictures, with all of their imperfections and apparent human-factor flaws, that I feel can't be found in today's films anymore.
And perhaps that is why I found The Illusionist to be so charming a film.
The film tells the story of an aging slight-of-hand magician who takes his stage act from Paris to the UK, in hopes of finding a more appreciative audience for his outdated tricks. While performing at an Inn in Scotland, his magic and kindness inspire a young girl to follow him and the two find themselves in Edinburgh.
Apart from being one of the most stunningly beautiful visual arrangements I have seen the last few years, it manages to do just that: touch on how all those little things that we have lost over the years, things that have been pushed aside in favor of 'advancement' and 'progress', somehow still are irreplaceable.
The struggles of working in a dying craft are depicted beautifully, while leaving you with a sweet and sour-y taste, just right for the film's tone.

A Craving For Hugs

An adorable rascal of a hedgehog came to live with us yesterday.

I am utterly in love with his clever looking dark eyes, and his arms-wide-open posture...it
is almost as if he is longing to be held at all times...
(I spent the better half of the afternoon holding him close, so I should know)
And his furry (rather than thorny) nature makes him quite the ideal companion, now
that crisp, winter-y days are getting closer :)

The Love Bandits

I am really, really excited to finally be able to share with you a painting from the new collection that I am currently working on...

I have already finished about four pieces, and it really is turning out to be quite the assemblage:)
I love the beginnings of each new collection, especially when I have done several pieces,
and I get to see them one next to the other up on the wall...
(It reminds me of a minuscule version of an exhibition)

Although Lewis Carroll reassures us that he wrote of the famous Mad Hatter's riddle with no particular answer in mind, as I was painting this rather flamboyant cutie, I had the impression that this was only partly true.

Of course Lewis Carroll wouldn't know the answer...
And of course the Mad Hatter does.

I have long wanted to pay a small tribute to one of my favorite books,

the -ever-enchanting-no-matter-how many times you have read it before-
Alice in Wonderland.
I wanted to create a collection inspired by this lovely, dear book, and breathe into it my own twist, and thus, I have literally been painting my summer away, and I am very happy
indeed with the results so far!

Hello there.

I know it's been quite a while.

Too much has happened in such a short while, that I can barely keep up with what goes on inside me at the moment. Feelings that I thought were crystallised and safely tucked away resurfaced, and they have swept me away once more.

I have lost all my safety blankets, and I have become exposed.

There's no telling if this will ultimately drag me down or lift me up.

Only time will tell.
