Imprisonment

Lately I have been thinking a lot about the boundaries we set to ourselves, raising walls around us and in reality creating our own little prisons, wherein we somehow end up feeling secure and safe. Life can be risky, (and in truth, there is risk to be taken even in everyday decisions), and it saddens me to realise that more and more people around me compromise for less. Less in their expectations from themselves, their friends, their relationships, their families, their carreers... It has been said that:

“A man will be imprisoned in a room with a door that's unlocked and opens inwards; as long as it does not occur to him to pull rather than push.”
Ludwig Wittgenstein

Tim Burton's Vision Of Alice In Wonderland

Well, it seems the wait is ( finally ) over, and the first characters of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland have been revealed! So without further delay, here they are:

The Lovely ( and oh so talented ) Mr. Depp as The Mad Hatter

Johnny Depp once more, Anne Hathaway as The White Queen, and the wonderful Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen

Matt Lucas as both Tweedledee and Tweedledum

And, of course, the lovely Mia Wasikowska as Alice

But the really, really great thing is that USAtoday has a set of three different panoramas from the movie, which you can click on, and zoom on in and out, and each panorama is just gorgeous!!!!

Click the image below to get to the site and see for yourself!!!!

Bookplates Time!

Here is the newest addition to the shop! It is my strong belief that books can indeed take you anywhere...but also can be taken anywhere, especially if you are lending them to friends and family... ( I should know, I am missing several Sandman issues)
Well, no worries! Now you can enjoy and share your books, as these lovely bookplates will help them all come home again!

You will receive 10 of those cuties. They are self-adhesive, have sweet little round corners, and will ship in a flat mailer, inside a sweet little envelope.

The Sad One

This little orange rascal is my first-ever plushie... My father bought him for me the day I was born, and we have been inseparable since...I named him The Sad One when I was 3 years old, and I was convinced that he was alive. This had very much to do with the fact that once I detached his facial features that weren' t in sync with my aesthetics as a wee one, (notably his nose and tongue) a little hole revealed itself on the place of his tongue. So I knew that it must have been his mouth, and since I could push french fries in it and they disapeared, he must had eaten them, correct?
My, the imagination I had as a little one...
So when we had to take our picture in the kindergarten with what we had crafted that Christmas, of course I brought him along! Now I don't remember why I had that look in my eyes that day, but I am sure I whispered it to his ear...

On A Very Produtive Weekend...

I hope your weekend has been great!!! Mine has passed by painting and sewing almost non-stop, which concluded in the completion of the Cinderella-in-a-different-way:

I am so very happy with the way it turned out, and even more so knowing it will adorn a ( very cool ) 13 year old girl's room!

Oh! Also, I have a new little rascal to share!!!

I give you Missy!!! She just loves a good riddle and Agatha Christie novels, hence the pondering expression!!! ( and she's just so adorable in that pink polka dot costume of hers...I just LOVE polka dots...but then again, you could tell that already ;))

A lovely week to everyone!!!

More Work In Progress

Here is how the painting from yesterday's post is turning out. It is proving really, really hard to photograph, especially due to the combination of that golden pumpkin carriage and a rather not - so - sunny day here today, ( which is strange for that time of the year), but you get the idea!

Also, another project that I have been working on and off for the past few weeks, on an idea that has been swimming in my head since...well, since I was a little girl really, and started loving shoes enough to dream about living in one...:)

Work In Progress

This is a new painting I am currently working on, and I am so excited about it!!! It's a commission from a lovely 13-to-be year old girl, and she wanted this for her birthday!!! The theme evolves around Cinderella, but I am going to give a much darker/punk/Tim Burton-ish feel to it!!! More photos tomorrow, as it evolves!!!

I wish you all a lovely weekend, filled with whatever your heart desires!!! I am going back to painting, while listening to the soundtrack from The Nightmare Before Christmas at the same time!!! ( In the middle of June, of all the times!!!)

Surprises In The Mail And New Work To See

A couple of weeks back, I took part in 'find-the-hidden-theme' contest, courtesy of Studio Haus and I won!!! So today I was overexcited to receive my gift in the mail...look how cute these two envelopes look!!!

I miss proper, old-fashioned letters...Don't get me wrong, I love technology and all its wonderful conveniences, but I miss handwritten words and smelling the paper on old letters and books. (yes I know that's quirky :)) I wish letter-writing made a comeback..
Also, I finally finished a new painting today, and I am very happy with the way it turned out!!! I apologize for the crummy photo, but my camera simply won't cooperate with me today...I will scan it later on and come back with (much more clear) details tomorrow!
